Three days of ceremonies and activities created a bridge between worlds, guided by the energy of the nawales.
Our IKAL community embraces and welcomes these days of celebration for what they really are, a sacred experience of acceptance and surrender towards this great portal that we have all crossed together. Dia de Muertos 2022 had the intention of honoring our ancestors, those who walked before us.
There is light and love that we receive when we meet face to face in community and joy, when we accept death as part of life and we honor the cycle of transformation in which we are all immersed. Love is part of our essence, of our walk, here where the community is strengthened by integrating the great threshold of life and death that we cross every year.
Día de Muertos at IKAL TULUM was honored through celebrations and ancestral rituals in circles, in children’s activities, in offerings, in full and deep listening, presence and respect before our ancestors, those who walked before us and remembering life through them, their experiences, and the legacy that our grandfathers and grandmothers left us, lineages full of life that still live in ourselves.
Each day of our celebration was dedicated to a nawual, and their energy guided IKAL activities. On October 31st, the nahual of the rain opened the underworld door to guide the souls from the four directions of the cosmos. On November 1st, we gave thanks for the ancestral wisdom through the nawual of the altars; on November 2nd, Aq'ab'al connected heaven and earth, and it was the time to greet the souls of our departed.
At IKAL, we want to remember again and again this very special days and the days that were lived with this energy of gratitude towards those who walked before us
Honoring for three days the portal we all go through is the way we recognize each other as brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, children of the universe and the ancestral wisdom of the family, walking the directions that determine the cosmos, remembering where we come from to know where we are going together. In integration with the heart of what we truly are, we recognize our legacy and above all our most sacred roots that live in the eternal echo of the present through the light of our unique souls.
