Once an important maritime and trading center, Tulum flourished during the final centuries of the Maya civilization. Its privileged position on a limestone cliff allowed its inhabitants to observe the horizon and welcome travelers arriving along the Caribbean coast.
Within its walls stand structures that continue to preserve the memory of this ancient world. El Castillo, the city’s most iconic building, rises above the sea as a timeless guardian of the coast. Nearby, the Temple of the Frescoes holds traces of Maya mural painting, while the Temple of the Descending God bears the image of a mysterious inverted deity closely associated with Tulum.
To walk among these temples is to enter a space where architecture, nature and the cosmos were deeply connected. Below the cliffs, the Caribbean unfolds in infinite shades of blue—a view that has witnessed centuries of ceremonies, journeys and transformation.
